Though I do not have dry eye during the day, I have been developing worsening symptoms of dry eye overnight while sleeping over the past 6 weeks, which has gotten really scary. Over the past three nights, I have been waking up multiple times a night likely due to the painful sensations from my eyeballs getting stuck or glued to my eyelids. I bought eye drops and eye gel for severe dry eye at night, but despite liberal applications before I go to sleep, I am still waking up multiple times throughout the night feeling like my eyes are glued stuck. I reach over to my bedside table and use a liquid eye drop to lubricate while I gently pry my eyes open. The first night this happened, I also noticed numbness in my arm and hand, which has been a recent but intermittent symptom while sleeping. I have been having a lot of autonomic symptoms lately, seemingly stemming from the cervical spine. I have been having a constant headache in the back/base of my skull and constant ringing in my ears the past two days. I am in the process of getting MRIs scheduled and I have an appt with Henderson in August. My ANA is positive with a titer of >1280 so I am also int he process of getting referred to a rheumatologist.
My mouth is not dry and I do not have dry eye when I am awake. I have never experienced these eye symptoms before. Due to the cold weather, we have a humidifier in the bedroom 24/7 and I even boil water on the store to help with the humidity level downstairs. I have not had any change in my medications in over a year.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Any theories on the root cause of this eye symptom: autonomic, autoimmune, hindbrain problems, CCI, CCSVI, etc.?
