Hi all, I am new here and need to thank Diana Driscoll massively, I have struggled for 14 months and finally prescribed Diamox for IIH thanks to her research, I can start to feel hopeful again! I will start Diamox next week thanks to POTS Care’s excellent brochure material and a fantastic neurologist. I have an appointment with cardio to talk medication for POTs in a few days. My question is does anyone know firstly if I should be taking anything at all and Diamox? Secondly if I were to take medication are there any I should be avoiding or any that work well with Diamox? Just looking for opinions or experience, it has proved very difficult to find anyone else from the UK to ask! Thanks smile

I’ve heard vitamin C helps when taking Diamox, also my neuro-opthalmologist advised a banana a day to keep my potassium up.  You probably already know the following but I’ll mention it anyway for those who don’t - you have to watch your blood potassium and bicarb levels don’t get too low.  Dr D and many others take a little bicarbonate of soda in capsules that they make up themselves, for when their bicarb drops.

You’re not supposed to take Aspirin whilst on Diamox but I thought I’d read somehwere that a maintenance dose of 75mg may be ok - but can I heck as find the documentation on this!  You’d be best asking your pharmacist about this and about what other drugs are contra-indicated.

Hi, thank you for your response, I have read up about Diamox and how to maintain good levels for it to be effective, I want to do all I can to ensure it does the job, I’m taking no chsnces. I am looking into bicarb tablets or alkaline drops for water and obviously eating as alkaline as possible. I already take potassium supplements and eat my fair share of bananas, I tend to steer clear of analgesics on the whole but good to know to not take asprin in any case. I’m just unsure of PoTS meds, whether beta blockers, alpha antagonists or medications that increase blood volume should be avoided with Diamox. I’m sure everyone here know how confusing this can all be.
