Hi, I have Classic EDS, and this morning when I woke up, I had sudden pain in my right eye. It felt kind of like someone ripping a bandaid off of my eyeball. For about 30 minutes after that, every time I blinked, I saw a bright flash of light. My vision was very blurry in that eye. (My vision is already a bit blurry, but even with my glasses, I could not make out letters with my right eye. (The flashing stopped, but my vision is still a bit blurry, although better than it was early this morning.)
I got in to see my eye doctor, and everything looked normal - no retinal detachment, no corneal abrasion. But the pressure in that eye was 28. (I have regular eye exams, and for the past few years the pressure in each eye has been in the 15-17 range.) I have a history of dry eyes, with the left worse than the right, typically.
The only other thing I can think of that may be related is that I have been having occasional hot flashes (I’m 49), and yesterday evening, I had LOADS of them - about every 30 minutes. (I was about to lose my mind!!)
My optometrist is trying to figure out if something happened that caused the increased pressure, or if the increased pressure caused the sensations I experienced this morning. He also asked me if I know of any way this could be related to EDS. I have no idea, but I thought I’d put it on here in case there is a connection.
I have been given two eye drops to use (Travatan and Simbrinza) and will have a recheck on Monday.
Has anyone else experienced this or have any knowledge of what may be going on??
