POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome) is a disorder of the autonomic nervous system – the system of the body that controls many automatic functions of the body, such as heart rate, blood pressure, digestion and temperature control.
For some people, POTS is short-lived and medications can be used to relieve symptoms during recovery. For others, it can be disabling and unresponsive to treatment and the underlying cause can remain a mystery (“idiopathic POTS”). Patients with idiopathic POTS do not usually respond well to the traditional treatment for POTS. Many of these patients have connective tissue disorders, high or low intracranial pressure, high levels of inflammation, and extreme and chronic fatigue. They may present with numerous related conditions such as fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/Myalgic Encepahalomyelitis, Chronic Lyme Disease, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome or MCAS (Mast Cell Activation Syndrome). POTS Care specializes in idiopathic POTS.
POTS Care is based on the work of Genetic Disease Investigators, LLC – a group devoted to the search for the underlying causes of Idiopathic POTS.
AN UNPRECEDENTED APPROACH
At POTS Care, a team of doctors evaluates ALL signs and symptoms of illness simultaneously to search for answers. This new approach to care is not only more efficient, potentially saving patients years of travelling from doctor to doctor, it may be necessary to locate the underlying problems contributing to POTS.
