Sorry histology. The places I have worked combine the cytology and histology into one huge department. Usually on the the same floor as the ORs, so the gross specimens don’t have to travel far. Much better that way. Less risk of something happening in transport. Plus when I was in school one could get their MT or CT or both. It is an old habit to refer to histopathology and cytopathology lab as cytology. Just as referring to the ED ( emergency department) as ER. You still have to us xylene for some things. There is no replacement for it as a clearing agent. It the best. Most places use a fume hood now and pour the waste unto a close bin. It is the acetone that affects me the most headache wise.
