I just wondered how many others on here are on Benadryl for there Mast cell issues. I have tried quite a number of anti histamines, and reacted not so good with quite a few, i seem to be doing ok with Diphenhydramine even though this is one of the older class of anthistamines. I wondered if anyone else was on this? Its quite cofusing as the brand name Benadryl contains different meds in different countries in the world. Becuase i am doing ok on this I hope it is as effective as some of the newer classes if H1’s but if this suits me at the moment i have to go with that.
I have been advised to try ketotifen which i will give it shot later on.

Hi Diamondcut, YES on the Ketotifen!! (research coming out soon). Zyrtec has additional properties beyond its antihistamine effects, and you may notice it helps you more than Benadryl. I used Benadryl every night for about 2 years to help me sleep, many years ago. It DID help, but not as much as Zyrtec did (for me). Of course, we are all “snowflakes” — each one of us is somewhat different… So, take that for what it is — my personal experience, OK? 🙂

“Dr. Diana will always hold a very special place in my heart for her selfless devotion to helping everyone, not just the Ehlers-Danlos community. I hate to think what my life would be without her insight and guidance.”
