Mast cells are being studied in the brain. dr. theoharides has over 100 articles on this topic. There is thought that foods can trigger mast cells in the brain which is why the gluten free casein free diet works for some kids. Also mast cells cause swelling and inflammation which can cause trouble in the brain if they degranulate. Dr. Theoharides also studies the effects of flavonoids in helping with autism and ADHD. I believe there is a link. I have MCAS and EDS and also was diagnosed with Aspergers but I think I do not have Aspergers just some traits that may be caused by my disease.
