Hi dr. Diana I have a question for you. I have mild pots, ehlers danlos syndrome mcad etc……. I just recently went to the eye doctor to get contacts and the dr discovered that my prescription went from -2.50 each eye to -1.25. He did ask if I had diabetes and I said no. My blood tests have always been normal. But I was looking up the reason why my eyesight might have gotten better because I am excited about it thinking its a good thing only to find it could be because of diabetes. Since my last eye appt maybe 1.5 years ago I have gone gluten free and cut out most packaged foods and sugars, I’ve Lost 35 lbs. Now I am worried, although my tests always come back normal for blood sugar I do react to sugars, heart palps mainly and getting extremely tired after eating. My pressures were high in the last appt too. Is there anything you can suggest for me to ask my dr. Or maybe it’s because I have not worn contacts for awhile? Thank You for all the work you do for us!
Huggz, this can be SO MANY things, including the possibility that you adapted to a prescription that was too strong for you (happens every day!). About contacts — it depends what type you wore… If in doubt, just ask for a screening for diabetes (a glucose tolerance check). I assume your ocular fundus was normal? No signs of diabetic retinopathy? Good for you for your diet changes and weight loss, BTW. That is tough to do (and for some of us, our weight changes up or down REGARDLESS of our diet/exercise, so please don’t guilt yourself if you go through that!)… Anywho, please ask your doctor about your concerns, OK? For years, I thought I had hypoglycemia, so I got a glucose monitor. Nope. Even when I felt as if my blood sugar HAD to be very low, it was “normal”. Unfortunately, that was when everything HIT THE FAN, and it took me years to sort it all out. Gads. But please rule out the ‘easy stuff’ first! 😉
