Hello everyone! I am new to this forum, and recently found out about Dr. Diana and have been so busy researching about Ehlers Dahlos after figuring out this is the underlying cause for my Dysautonomia, POTS, and MVP.
I am curious though to know if birth control has an effect on any of these. Before I had my daughter 6 years ago, I was on the pill, patch, and ring at different times. They always made me nauseous and so I always ended up discontinueing them which led to my pregnancy. After my daughter was born I went on Depo. While I love not having a period, I am worried this is not the best option for EDS due to bone density loss. Also, I have gained over 50 lbs. from it. I was thinking about getting the implanon after this cycle, but would like some feedback. Also, if there has been any research on this could you please point me in the right direction.
Thanks so much,
HI Ashton, and welcome! As far as I know, there has been no research in this area for us (shocking, I know. ha). Personally, I was on a low-dose pill for about 15 years without an issue (I wasn’t symptomatic then, however). When I first got sick with dysautonomia, I was SO SICK for about 10 days around my period, that I went on low-dose estrogen to stop my periods for about 2 years. Again, no issues, and I was able to go off of it after about 2 years. Many of us are prone to pro-thrombotic conditions, so I think a good family history is a must, and watching your blood for ‘blood thickening’ is important — as is watching your bone density (mine stayed about the same). Will you let us know what you decide and how you do? I think a lot of people are struggling with the same decisions. Thanks so much!;)
