KeymasterI usually recommend starting with 3 capsules on an empty stomach, first thing in the morning. When taken this way, the vagus nerve is stimulated and *hopefully* you’ll have a bowel movement in about an hour, reassuring you that things are working as anticipated. When I first started it (I also had hyperadrenergic POTS), I had EXTREME fatigue, and for the first few days, I took about 7 capsules a day! I could feel my energy return, and as it wore off, I could feel the fatigue creep back in. Looking back, I can see how I was very deficient in acetylcholine. Eventually, the liver stores go up, and these swings go away. Please keep us posted! 🙂

ParticipantThank you so much for your quick reply. I began your recommended dose today and am hopeful I’ve finally found a “cure” as opposed to simply managing and mitigating symptoms. I, like you, also experience extreme fatique–particulary when I don’t consientiously manage my condition. I haven’t been able to drive farther than a 15 minute excursion in over 2 years due to confusion and lightheadedness when I sit with my legs extended and downward. It’s truly been debiliating. I’m so hoping Parasym will be the answer I’ve been seeking.
I’d like to mention to other POTS patients who may read this post that a huge help in my being able to “manage” my condition is daily exercise. It’s very, very difficult I know. I’m a runner and was sidelined for years due to POTS. What I’ve found is that if I just push myself to get out the door, and then keep running through the distress and extreme shortness of breath, eventually my heart and breathing “switch over” to normal respiration and it’s tolerable–even ejoyable. You just need to be willing to push through the initial time period it takes for you body to make the adjustment. I find I feel so much better throughout the day when I’ve run. My energy is better, my fatique is largely relieved until later in the afternoon. I’m not sure why, but my lay theory is that cardio exercise increases O2 in the blood which, in turn, provides more available O2 to my brain. Although my POTS is still present, I think the increase in O2 mitigates symptoms. Just my theory.

ParticipantHi Doc,
1) Is it generally best to take the PP on an empty stomach ?
2) Is it ok to pull apart the capsules and empty the contents into water and drink stir it in and drink the lot – I often have difficulty swallowing caps ?
3) On a seperate but important note can you please advise me on how to post a thread ? I’m probably being daft and maybe haven’t read something properly. Also I cannot remember my password but I seem unable to post a help request.
