    Hello everyone

I’ve been taking Diamox and found that I can tolerate it by taking half of a 250 mg tablet (125 mg) at night and then 1/4 of a tablet in the morning and every 4 hours through the day. This still doesn’t stop all my head, neck and shoulder pain but doesn’t cause nausea and strange feelings in my head. The only side effect now is that I have occasional tingling in my fingers and when this happens they go bright red. I also get this in my lips sometimes. Should I carry on and is there anything that would help me tolerate a higher dose at night so that I don’t wake with the occipital headache and still have neck pain during the day?

I have had my bicarb levels checked and they read 31 so should be OK. Any suggestions to get a better result welcome. Also, should I still take the Zyrtec/Zantac combination with Diamox?

    Wishing you all good health.

    Hi Bea,
I used to get the tingling in fingers with Diamox but I just had to cut the dose down. With regard to the head neck and shoulder pain, I found that the Philadelphia collar got rid of this altogether for me.

    Hi Barbara

May I ask how what dosage of Dx you found gave you the least side effects and most pain relief? I’m glad the Philadelphia collar helped you. I also purchased one but it doesn’t fit me very well so I can’t get on with it.

Thanks for your advice which is much appreciated

Hi Bea, well if you are certain you measured it incorrectly, then I can understand that because I’ve had collars the wrong size but, don’t just assume you measured incorrectly because it feels weird, I tell you, the collar feels awful to start with because you’re putting your head in a position it doesn’t normally go on it’s own – but it’s much better for your head (and your whole body!) to be in this new position, no matter how trussed up it feels, you have to persevere to get results. That’s why many of us have all these symptoms in the first place, because our heads are held in the wrong place. I also recall the Philadelphia collar making my skin sore very quickly initially because they issued it without collar liners – these are essential for comfort.

As for the Diamox, I don’t recall clearly but I think it was 125mg three times daily but we all seem to tolerate it differently, so it’s just a case of trial and error. I’d always suggest starting at a low dose.

Does anyone know of an alternative to Diamox if I am allergic to sulfa?
