ParticipantI am not sure I understand the mechanics as to why Diamox works for external communicating hydrocephalus but am wondering since apparently Ginkgo Biloba is used as an alternative to Diamox for altitude sickness now whether it would help with external communicating hydrocephalus?
Has anyone tried/checked into this? I wonder if the effectiveness would be hampered by how acidic/alkaline the body is like Diamox? This link gives an interesting overview of the herb and the percentage of “ginkgolides” to look for in a quality product and even doses.
http://www.drweil.com/drw/u/REM00004/Ginkgo-Biloba-Dr-Weil-Herbal-Remedies.htmlGuess it’s not very expensive and probably wouldn’t hurt to give it a two month try since I do not have access to Diamox.
Thanks in advance.May 25, 2014 at 3:28 am #5015Rae

Thanks in advance. We’ll done you for finding a connection there. I also wondering if it would help but not specifically hydrocephalus but intracranial hypertension. I look forward to hearing what comes of your find and how it might help.

ParticipantGinkgo Biloba Update
Well, I had high hopes Ginkgo Biloba would help relieve my headaches a bit but, sad to say, it hasn’t. Oh well.
I did get some headache relief from magnesium L-threonate! An 85% lifting of the literal cloudiness of vision activity. Plus a bit more thinking ability. At first it improved my headaches 85%, too! I was over the moon happy, but then I ran out so didn’t take it for a couple weeks. Started again but I never got the headache relief I’d had. Who would have thought. I even called the mfg. to see if batch might be bad. So, if you try it and it works, be aware that may happen if you stop. Also, it crosses the blood brain barrier, which is a bit scary for me but sometimes we must make those decisions as to when quality of life is more important than risks. It is available as vitamin and appears Source Naturals has the best price. I only take 1 capsule at night rather than the 3 capsule schedule recommended. I may try adding another capsule. Just need to work up the courage. -
