I just looked at the vision portion of my benefits package and looked up providers covered under my plan…..
Dr. Diana….your wonderful husband is going to get another bendy for a patient! He’s a provider on my plan!
OK…sorry…I’m just really really excited that I’ll have someone knowledgeable about EDS handling my eye care (my eyes have been an issue since childhood). It is WELL worth the drive to Colleyville for me (I live out near Sulphur Springs)!
I’ll send you back to your regular programming now ๐

January 1, 2012 at 5:17 pm #1624PalominoMorganParticipantHow cool! I’m a bit jealous I must say. I found a pretty good eye dr when I had a sudden onset of eye pain last Feb. She is unfamiliar with EDS and chiari but open enough to learning. For example, when I mentioned that pain with side-to-side eye movement is a noted chiari symptom she asked if I had any materials on that. As it turned out I had the Journal of Neiroscience article with me that my neuro refused to look at. She GLADLY took it and was excitedly talking about how she was very happy to have the info and to keepmlearnin, especially across disciplines. Quite the opposite of most docs I find.
So, I’m sure you will be in good hands with the other Dr D as well. (That’s got to be confusing having two DrD’s in one house. ๐

Hey, HH, that’s GREAT!! Do you have POTS, too? If so, we could include you in our study of looking for changes in the vessels in the back of the eye, if you’d like. We’re about ready to wind it up! If you’d like to PM me and let me know when you’re coming, I may be able to show up and say ‘howdy-do’. ๐

Wow, PalominoM, a doctor who is excited to learn! Gotta love that! It cracked me up when you said you just happened to have a copy of the article from the Journal of Neuroscience… HA! You are a walking encyclopedia, my friend. ๐

I’m waiting for part 2 of the Driscoll Theory to drop on my PCP. When I told her who was in the office the same day I saw the geneticist she made a face and said “yeah, what are the odds?”

HA!! If Part 2 drops on your PCP, it may break. ๐ Hubby is on page 17 and says it is “very detailed and complicated”. Yup! ๐
I still can’t believe we ended up at Dr. Francomano’s at the same time! HY-STER-I-CAL!

LOL!!! I did! I’ve had the good fortune of already meeting your wonderful husband! Not sure if I have POTS but am suspecting it as I took my pulse one day after doing nothing more than lifting a small box from the floor to a table and it was 162bpm. WOW! (O,o)
Dr. Francomano is also listed as a provider on my insurance (am I just blessedly lucky or WHAT???) so I plan to make an appointment with her here shortly. I’m fortunate in that I am in a position where I am able to go anywhere in the country to get what I need from a medical perspective…so I have no qualms about going to Baltimore, especially if it means cutting out the aggravation and frustration of dealing with doctors who wouldn’t be able to find a case of EDS with both hands, a flashlight, a tour guide and a map. Been there…done that…and the only reason I’m anywhere near a diagnosis is because, after TWENTY YEARS of searching for answers, I really really believe I have found it….thanks to the PATIENTS in the EDS community and EDNF. I kid you not…my vet knows more about EDS than any doctor I have spoken to YET! How sad is THAT?? Yikes!
I would LOVE to meet you! I will definitely give you a heads up as to when I am coming! How EXCITING!!

I’ve had eye pain for about a year with one episode where it was very bad. Most often it’s a dull ache that flairs when driving or reading text on the TV. Just saw the ophthalmologist and he did all his tests and said he has no idea why I have eye pain. It seemed to coincide with an episode where my whole back seized up too. That’s a dull ache now all the time. I’ve always had upper back and neck issues. Now the jaw has lit up and my shoulders. No one is putting anything together. I had a singular episode of painful swallowing. May have been calcific tendonitis in an anterior cervical spinal muscle according to the ER.

Don’t give up! When one doctor doesn’t see anything wrong, I betcha’ you’ll find another that does… Did they rule out retrobulbar optic neuritis? Do you have any hydrocephalus? When my pressure is a bit eye, I can get some eye pain that usually coincides with neck pain. Hmm. So hard to tell over the internet! I would seek another opinion, if you can. I remember my internship in the military, and 5 doctors would look at a patient, and most would miss the diagnosis (a funky case of uveitis comes to mind). Even with the same education and intelligence, their exposure to special cases shapes their knowledge, too. Hang in, my friend. ๐
