Hi There Hopeful. I have Chiari and EDS and wanted to tell you that the Chiari went undiagnosed for many years. ALSO there is new evidence that there is such a thing as having CHIARI with a 0 herniation. So it does not matter how long the herniation is.
Please make sure that you not only have a knowledgable neurologist but a skilled neurosurgeon that knows about Chiari specifically.
