Suspect you have EDS and headed for surgery? You may want to share this with your doctors!

(you can cut and paste the link — thanks!)

    There’s no link.

Thanks, PhoenixDown! Dad-gum technology! ๐Ÿ˜‰ This link will work, but as usual, you may need to cut and paste it to your browser. I’ll try to work on why that is necessary…Have a great day! ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Dr. Diana,
I can’t get it to work. Even with copy and paste.

So glad you could retrieve it! Yes, I don’t have PM’s so that we can all learn from each others’ questions (not to mention the fact that I would be completely overwhelmed! ๐Ÿ˜‰ None of us are “easy patients”, right? Thanks, my friend…

    Dr. Diana,

OK, Lab-Scientist-Lady and Huey, I’ve consulted my IT dept. (that would be my husband!) — If you cannot retrieve the document by cutting and pasting, can you double check by going to “Articles and Handouts” on the home page? It should still be the first one listed. If you can’t download it there, you likely don’t have Adobe Acrobat (needed to download PDF’s). It is a free download (the good news!). If it is a problem for a lot of folks, I could check into putting the document in a different form. We are a world-wide forum, with lot of different technology used among us, so this is a bit tricky. Can you give that a whirl? Thanks so much, everyone! ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Dr. Diana,

Do you have the full article or just the abstract? If so could you post it too? It is the scientist in me that wants to read more.

Hi Lab-Scientist-Lady, Great! Were you able to retrieve it, then? Gosh, I was hoping YOU could get us the article. ๐Ÿ™‚ I always get the full article when it is free, but am VERY picky when it comes to coughing up the dough for an article, for obvious reasons! I have over 15,000 articles/abstracts on my computer now from my research, and have paid about $6,000 for full articles when I, too, REALLY needed to see the science! It’s been an investment, but I hope it helps us all. I told my husband that it’s not like we’ll be using money for any travel or grand vacations during “retirement” now! ha. I loved that this one tried to give surgeons a “heads up” about EDS, though! Very refreshing! ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Dr. Diana,

I tried going to the site, but you have to be a resident or a surgeon to get the membership. Plus it is expensive. I don’t even pay for my American Society for Clinical Pathology stuff anymore. They charge too much. They should want us to know the info with out making us pay so much. No wonder doctors don’t know much about EDS.

I’m happy to have come across this page as it has provided me with something to think about.

So glad you found it helpful. I also wanted you all to know that there is a BIG PUSH for “open-access” to these types of journal publications. Things are already shifting– I don’t think it will be long before we’ll all be able to read the full articles. Yea!

What others say

โ€œDr. Diana will always hold a very special place in my heart for her selfless devotion to helping everyone, not just the Ehlers-Danlos community. I hate to think what my life would be without her insight and guidance.โ€
