I don’t know what prompted me to pick up a camera and begin shooting images of flowers, trees, clouds and sunsets in the spring of 2008; however, I do know that a passion for doing so has ignited inside me. Photography is a conduit to my voice within – a voice which was nearly silenced by the shadows of a bewildering illness. While I often feel like a mere silhouette of the person I once was, there is something about photographing a subject which invigorates me. Capturing a distinct still frame in the continuum of life is a humbling feat. It reminds me that every breath and breeze belongs to the universe and is to be cherished; that in the midst of turmoil and melancholy also dwell vivacity and hope. Perhaps through viewing frozen moments of life, I am more capable of looking forward to what the bigger picture may harbor for me. I’m discovering, after all, that life is an enigma.

Due to limitations caused by my illness, I’m confined to my house for the most part. Therefore, all of the photos featured in my portfolios have been captured in my backyard. I’d like to think this suggests two notions. First, when an individual is passionate about something, he or she will always find a way to express that fervor. Second, nature’s beauty is everywhere – from the most exotic locations to our very backyards.

From these reflections emerged the concept of Hope Through Nature. I pondered that if I’ve been moved by nature’s influence of both simplicity and intricacy at once, then conceivably others have been motivated by the same notion. I thought it could be an encouraging and beautiful project to share with others. In a world so distraught by affliction and sorrow, wouldn’t it be enjoyable to create a means through which people can be touched by and share their own sentiments of hope? I invite you to visit my site to view all my nature photos at http://www.hopethroughnature.com.

    Fellow spoonie,

“Hope through Nature” — how can you NOT love this? 😉 What is not seen is the beauty of the poem of your entry, too. I’ll consider that an entry in-and-of-itself! Tremendous work! 😉

What others say

“Dr. Diana will always hold a very special place in my heart for her selfless devotion to helping everyone, not just the Ehlers-Danlos community. I hate to think what my life would be without her insight and guidance.”
